Meet the Cherry Class team
Terrill Class Teacher
Message from Cherry Class
Welcome back! We hope you have had a fantastic holiday!
This half term we will spend the first week getting to know one another and learning to work together as a group. Throughout the remainder of the term, we will be learning about the following topics:
Literacy: In our class story, we will be reading the story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. This links well with our topic of ‘buildings, homes and habitats’ and will also allow the children to engage in role play linked to familiar experiences and it will give us the opportunity to adventure in our local environment too. We will continue to incorporate speaking and listening activities across the school day and within focused activities.
Numeracy: In our numeracy lesson, we will be focussing upon shape and pattern. We are hoping to become familiar with our 4 basic 2D shapes and explore these shapes in a variety of different contexts to show our understanding eventually building up to making simple patterns and trying to increase the time we spend exploring different sensory materials. We will also be working upon personalised targets throughout the week linked to all areas of numeracy.
Topic: This half term we will be learning all about ‘Buildings, homes and habitats’. This will link very closely with our story, looking at where different mini beasts and insects live and what their homes and habitats might look like? Lots of sensory activities within water, grass and mud! This will be a very exciting topic and due to the opportunity of being able to explore in different local environments so we can consolidate our learning with real life experiences.
PE: We are lucky to be having Rachel at the start of this year who specialises in delivering an adapted PE session for our children which best meets their needs. Pupils will also work on their physical independent learning targets throughout this time. We are also very lucky to have a swimming slot on a Thursday afternoon and this will hopefully continue until the end of the year and we are looking at following an adapted swimming scheme which your child will try and complete simple activities in the water.
Food technology: We will be working a variety of skills linked to introducing new equipment and ingredients. We will be looking at using different utensils and different methods of making foods, such as rolling, whisking and cutting.
We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or communicate through the school diary.
