Message from Maple Class

Welcome back! We hope you have had a fantastic holiday and are very much looking forward to hearing all about them.

This half term we will spend the first week getting to know one another and learning to work together as a group. We will be taking part in lots of ‘All about me’ activities using mirrors, name and picture cards and identifying some features that are the same and different.

Literacy: In our reading sessions, we will be exploring poems all about ‘Autumn’ and then ‘Winter’. This will allow the children to enjoy some lovely sensory activities and engage in role play linked to familiar experiences. We will continue to incorporate speaking and listening activities across the school day and within focused activities.

Numeracy: In our numeracy lessons we will be focusing on number songs and games as well as exploring capacity in lots of fun ways using water play, tea sets and lots of towels! The children will be exposed to language associated with capacity such as ‘full’ and ‘empty’.

Topic: This half term we will be learning all about ‘People who help us’. We will focus upon people who help in our home, school and our local community. We’re hoping to have lots of fun engaging in role play and finding out how we can help others.

PE: The children will be working with our moving and handling specialist this term in their PE sessions. Catherine and the team will be supporting children to work towards their individual mobility and physical targets whilst providing fun and engaging activities in the hall with a focus on ball games.

Food technology: We will be working a variety of skills linked to introducing new equipment and ingredients. We will continue to work on these basic skills across the autumn term and hope you enjoy the delicious things we send home.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact the team through the school diary or by phone.

How can you help at home?

Class will send home target cards for children to work on specific skills related to their EHC meetings.  If there is anything you wish your child to work on in school please let us know.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Whittle & Jo Brown
