Message from Oak Class

Welcome back! We hope you have had a fantastic holiday and are very much looking forward to hearing all about them.

This half term we will spend the first week getting to know one another and learning to work together as a group. We will be taking part in lots of ‘All about me’ activities using mirrors, name and picture recognition and identifying some features that are the same and different to our peers in class through a multi-sensory learning approach. Throughout the remainder of the term, we will be learning about the following topics:

Literacy: In our class story, we will be reading the story of ‘Alfie gives a hand’. This links well with our topic of ‘people who help us’ and will also allow the children to engage in role play linked to familiar experiences. We will continue to incorporate speaking and listening activities across the school day and within focus activities.

Numeracy: In our numeracy lesson, we will be focussing upon data handling. We are hoping to count and categorise for lots of different purposes in and around the school grounds. We will also be working upon personalised targets throughout the week linked to all areas of numeracy.

Topic: This half term we will be learning all about ‘People who help us’. We will focus upon people who help in our home, school and our local community. We’re hoping to have lots of fun engaging in role play and finding out how they help others.

PE: We are lucky to be having an outside agency coming into school to deliver rugby. Some pupils from Oak class took part in this last year and learnt a lot throughout the year. Pupils will also work on their physical independent learning targets throughout this time.

Food technology: We will be working a variety of skills linked to introducing new equipment and ingredients. We will continue to work on these basic skills across the autumn term and hopefully by summer we will be ready to enter MasterChef.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or communicate through the school diary.

How can you help at home?

All children will be sent a postcard home on Friday which will allow parents and carers the opportunity to share information about what the children have been doing at the weekend. We will use this information to communicate with the children about what they have been doing and use it as a topic to motivate speaking and listening. Children will access a range of picture communication boards and symbols to support their understanding at a suitable level. However, if you would like additional resources to be sent home to support your child’s learning please let me know.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead and hope you’ll visit our page again to look at our class photos.
