Message from Orange Class

We have spent the first week getting to know one another and learning to work together as a group. We will continue to take part in lots of ‘All about me’ activities using mirrors, names and picture recognition and exploring our senses through lots of practical activities. Throughout the remainder of the term, we will be learning about the following topics:

Literacy: In our Literacy lessons we will be reading different stories about some of our favourite helpers such as; Fireman Sam and Postman Pat this will link into our ‘People who help us’ topic. We will continue to incorporate speaking and listening activities across the school day and within focus activities.

Numeracy: In our numeracy lesson, we will be focusing on shapes and positional language. We will also be working upon personalised targets throughout the week linked to all areas of numeracy.

Topic: This half term we will be learning all about ‘People who help us’. We will focus upon people who help in our home, school and our local community. We’re hoping to have lots of fun engaging in role play and finding out how they help others.

PE: We are focusing on ball games this term. We will be developing out gross motor skills by playing lots of different ball games. We will continue to develop our fine motor skills in everyday activities. Pupils will also work on their physical independent learning targets throughout this time.

Food technology: We will be working a variety of skills linked to introducing new equipment and ingredients. We will continue to work on these basic skills across the autumn term and hopefully by summer we will be ready to enter Masterchef.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or communicate through the school diary.

How can you help at home?

Children will receive a postcard home on a Friday, which will allow parents and carers the opportunity to share information about what the children have been doing at the weekend. We will use this information to communicate with the children in order to motivate speaking and listening. It would be great if you could email any pictures you may have to support the information on the postcard. Children will access a range of picture communication boards and symbols to support their understanding at a suitable level.

Yours sincerely,

Edel Hargadon and the Orange class team
