Gone are the days of playing Football and Netball for 3 solid weeks. Today’s PE lessons is about variety, working on Pupils basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending, perform dances using simple movement patterns. Develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance [for example, through athletics and gymnastics], take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team, compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.

The School Games Mark is a goverment led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evalate their P.E. provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.

Cherry Tree was awarded the Silver Mark Certificate for 2016-17.

What is the School Games?

The School Games comprises both Intra and Inter school competitions as well as an annual national finals event. Cherry Tree and Greenfold quailified for 2 national events last year, New Age Kurling and Boccia.

Premier League Primary Stars

The Orchards Federation are thrilled to receive Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment

Pupils and staff from The Orchards Federation, in Farnworth, are celebrating after being awarded a Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment pack.

The pack contains Footballs, Bibs, cone, Whistle, goals, hula hoops, Dice, Markers which will help the delivery of a purposeful, Fun and engaging PE lessons in return help the children develop their skills.

The Kit and Equipment Scheme forms part of the Premier League Primary Stars offer to primary schools in England and Wales. This is a curriculum-linked education programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League and its clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

Delivered by the Football Foundation, the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme gives teachers a range of equipment that can be used across different curriculum areas to get children active.

Also available is a free downloadable suite of resources for teachers across Key Stages 1 and 2 in English, Maths, PE and PSHE. The easy-to-use materials have been developed in partnership with education organisations including the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association.

Mathematician Rachel Riley and children’s authors Cressida Cowell and Dan Freedman also helped to create the teaching packs, which use real life sport examples to put lessons into a relevant and engaging context for children.

Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League and Football Foundation Trustee, said: “Congratulations to The Orchards Federation on their successful application for a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack. We hope this kit, coupled with the free downloadable online resources, will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from Maths and English to teamwork and sport.”
