Message from Willow Class
A big hello to you all and welcome to Willow Class! It’s fantastic to be teaching your child this year – for the majority of children this will be the second or third time I have taught them, whilst for others, the first. I’m looking forward to an exciting year ahead with many stimulating activities planned.
This half term we will be learning all about ourselves and what makes each one of us unique. There will be many opportunities to use our bodies and the senses we have to explore a variety of media and textures both familiar and new. Throughout the remainder of the term, we will be learning about the following topics:
Literacy: In our class sensory story, we will be exploring parts of our bodies using the ‘I have a body, a very busy body’ song, focussing on a different body part each week. This links well with our topic of ‘This is me’. We will continue to incorporate speaking and listening activities across the school day and within focus activities.
Numeracy: In our numeracy lesson, we will be focussing upon problem solving. We will be encouraging the children to explore many different filled containers, boxes, switch activated toys and resources. We will also be working upon personalised targets throughout the week linked to all areas of numeracy.
Topic: This half term we will be learning all about ‘Ourselves’ and what makes us unique. We will focus upon what activities we like and don’t like in addition to tastes, smells, textures etc, which will be covered in a very multi- sensory way
PE/MOVE: We will be working with Maple Class children in our PE sessions with a focus on ball skills this term. Pupils will also work on their physical independent learning targets throughout this time.
We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or communicate through the school diary.
How can you help at home?
Please use your child’s home-school diary to tell us about things they have been doing at home or over the weekend. We will use this information to communicate with the children about what they have been doing and use it as a topic to motivate speaking and listening.
As always, thank you for your continued support
