Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Dear Parent / Carers,

Welcome to Year 3. We are looking forward to a busy and exciting year. Here is some information to help you and your child during the first half term.

Year 3 Staff

There are two teachers in year 3; Miss Levay and Miss Morgan. Supporting us are Mrs Whitworth (HLTA), Mrs Pitts and Mrs Makin. We will be working very closely together in our team to plan and create an interesting learning environment.

The Curriculum

This term our class author is Roald Dahl and we are going to start reading George’s Marvellous Medicine this term. In the Spring term we will be reading Stig of the Dump that was written by Clive King. In the summer term we will be reading Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree.

Our topic at the moment is Volcanoes & Earthquakes and after half term we will be learning about our local history, Bolton’s Cotton Mills.

In the Spring term we study The Stone Age and Healthy Bodies. In the Summer term we will learn about Plants, Light and Forces.

P.E. will take place on Tuesday afternoon (indoor) with Rachel. Please make sure your child has warm clothing as we head towards winter. Please make sure your children have the appropriate kit and that no jewellery is worn. Earrings should be taken out before your child comes to school or send in plasters to cover their ears.

Homework

On a weekly basis the children will be given a list of spellings to learn and they will be tested on Friday. They will also have a times table test every Friday.

Children will also be expected to read at least three times a week at home and continue to learn their times tables.

We will be inviting you to come into class and share the children’s work throughout the year, we look forward to seeing you then.

We hope that this information is useful and we look forward to the year ahead.
